Lesson & Practice
Lesson and Practice Recommendations:
Lessons In-Home should be free of distractions, such as TV, siblings, and cell phones.
For kids under 6 yrs old, I may ask the parent to sit-in during lesson time.
Homework will be given after each lesson for students to practice during the week.
Parents are encouraged to help establish, and stick to, a practice routine. Practice time must be free of distractions.
Students should practice at least 3 to 4 times each week. The goal is to practice the homework assigned for the week to a relatively fluent level before next week's lesson.
Students who successfully finish their designated pieces of challenge will be invited to play in semi-annual recitals.
Instrument Recommendations:
While a piano is always the best choice for a piano students, for complete beginners, a lower-end keyboard is also good to learn the fundamentals of notes, sight reading and basic hand coordination. You can easily find a keyboard under $200 online or at your local music store, e.g., Guitar Center or Sam Ash.
For students that have been learning for more than half a year, I strongly recommend purchasing a real acoustic piano, or at least an electronic keyboard with heavy-weighted and touch-sensitive keys.
